Leather TankardLeather Tankard
LIMITED EDITION OF 500.EACH ITEM IS NUMBERED AND HAS AN AUTHENTICATION CERTIFICATE SIGNED BY THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF HMS VICTORY. Handstitched, the Victory "Boot" or leather "black jack" was used to drink beer and wine, which in the 18th century was less alcoholic than today's products. The pitch lining inside the tankard or "boot" as leather tankards were often referred to, could not be used for the consumption of spirits such as rum, because the concentrated alcohol would dissolve the lining and taint the drink. Given its limitations the black jack still featured in toasts such as "Fill yer Boots!"
